This junk removal estimate template is a spreadsheet that builds your quote price from your own costs. It is a one-time download for Excel and Google Sheets.

Price loads, cleanouts and single-item pickups from your own dump tickets

Enter what your truck, trailer and crew cost to run, plus your landfill's rates. Every load after that is priced from your own numbers, not a price sheet copied from the hauler across town.

  • Know what an hour of loading really costs Insurance, truck parking, marketing and both wages, yours too, become one break-even rate per crew hour.
  • Price the whole load, not just the dump fee The drive, the walk-through, carrying and loading, the sweep and the dump run each get their own line.
  • Still quote by the load or the yard You get the job total and the price per cubic yard, so a quarter-load price sheet has a real number behind it.
  • Stop loading for free Unpaid minutes like the wait at the scale and full cupboards to bag sit on a checklist that must be answered first.
  • Text the customer a proper estimate A one-page estimate with hauling terms, ready to send as a PDF from the driveway.
  • See which loads made money The Job Log keeps every quote, won or lost, with the real hours and the scale ticket.

How it turns dump fees, crew hours and trailer time into a load quote

There are six tabs. Set up the business once, update fees when the dump changes them, and build one quote per job.

  1. Start HereWhich tab to fill first and what the colours mean, readable in ten minutes.
  2. Shop SetupInsurance, parking for the trailer, marketing, your crew and your truck become one break-even rate per crew hour.
  3. Price ListLandfill rate per ton, the dump's minimum, mattress, tire and TV fees, and bags, each dated.
  4. QuoteTons to the dump, item fees, crew hours by stage, trailer hours and the forgotten-cost list, then the price and price per yard.
  5. Customer QuoteA one-page estimate with ready-made junk removal terms.
  6. Job LogEach quote won or lost, then the real hours and the scale ticket, so you see which loads paid.

What is a break-even rate? It is what one crew hour on a paid job has to bring in to cover the wages and every cost of keeping the truck on the road, before profit. Days with no jobs still cost money, so the rate is higher than the wage. The true hourly rate guide explains it step by step.

Prefilled example built-in

The file comes filled in with a made-up junk removal company and its $968 cleanout quote, so you see a finished quote before you type in your own numbers.

The job is a garage cleanout before the house is listed: one full 14-yard dump trailer of household junk, a mattress set, four old tires, cabinets to empty and a broom sweep. Two people do it with one dump run, at a break-even of $52.44 per person per crew hour.

AB
1 Part of the price Amount
2 Dump fees, item fees and supplies $223
3 Crew, truck and trailer $385
4 Easy-to-miss costs $117
5 Markup, cushion and profit $244
6 Price to the customer $968

That comes to about $69 a cubic yard, and the $244 is kept after both people, the owner included, have been paid. The job earns about $82 per labour hour. The full method is on how much to charge for junk removal.

$117

That is what the easy-to-miss lines alone added to this one example quote. It is about 2 times what the calculator costs. Miss them once and the file has paid for itself.

Why busy haulers at $200 a job still end the month broke

Plenty of new haulers run five or more jobs a day at a couple of hundred dollars each and still have almost nothing left at the end of the month. The price was set to win the job, not to pay for the day.

The math is simple. A two-person crew with a $105 an hour break-even that spends two hours on a $200 job, counting the drive and the dump run, has used $210 of crew time before paying a single dump fee. The job lost money before the trailer was even weighed, and six of those in a day is a full day of work at a loss.

Copying another hauler's price sheet does not fix this, because you do not know their dump rate, their trailer payment or whether they pay themselves. This file starts from your own costs, then shows the per-yard number, so the price sheet you publish is one you can live on.

Scale lines, full cupboards and the other load costs it catches

Every forgotten-cost line needs a Yes, a No or N/A before the quote is done:

  • The estimate trip or photo quote, including the ones that never book.
  • Waiting in line at the scale, two people on the clock and nothing moving.
  • Full cabinets and loose stuff to bag, which looks like ten minutes and takes an hour.
  • The customer sorting while the crew waits.
  • Tile or concrete hidden under the pile, which turns a light load heavy at the scale.
  • A damage repair reserve for walls, floors and door frames. Left as No in the example on purpose, so the warning stays until you set your own number.

Exactly what you get

You download one spreadsheet file straight after paying. It runs in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, costs nothing more after the first payment, and needs no account.

  • The six-tab load calculator, blank cells ready for your dump rates and crew.
  • An example junk removal company, with a full garage cleanout quote to study first.
  • Hauling terms already written: the photo price is confirmed on site, items added on the day are priced before loading, and hazardous waste is refused.
  • A Job Log. In the example, a big estate cleanout ran almost twice its quoted hours and lost money; job costing explains how to catch that.

Who it's for: pickup-and-trailer haulers and small box-truck crews

It fits owner-operators and small crews (roughly 1 to 15 people) running a pickup and dump trailer or a box truck, who price loads from memory, and new haulers setting a first price sheet. One person with a trailer or three trucks on the road, single items or whole estates, it works because the dump fees, hours and truck costs are your own.

It is not for franchise locations that already run pricing and dispatch software, or anyone who wants a free blank form. Whether hauling is taxed varies by state, so the example leaves tax at 0%. For a phone price, the quote vs estimate guide explains why it should be a range, and the free true hourly rate calculator gives you a break-even rate today.

Stop copying another hauler's load prices. Price every cleanout from your own dump fees, crew hours and trailer, catch the unpaid minutes, and see which loads made money.

Questions owners ask

Is this a junk removal estimate template or a calculator?

Both. The Quote tab works out the load price from your dump fees, crew hours and trailer time, and the Customer Quote tab prints it as a one-page estimate with junk removal terms.

Is there a subscription?

No. You pay once and download the file. There is no app, login or monthly fee.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the Excel file to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets, or use it in Excel on a computer.

Can it build my price sheet by the quarter load?

Yes, from a real full load. Price one full trailer or truck, divide by its cubic yards, then set your quarter and half loads from that number. The worked 14-yard trailer comes to about $69 a yard.

Are the dump fees in the file right for my area?

No. They are placeholders so you can see the math. Put in your own landfill rate per ton and item fees, and the Price List flags any fee you have not re-checked in a while.

Does it work on a phone?

Mostly for viewing. You can open it in the Google Sheets app to check a quote, but setting it up is much easier on a computer.

How long does the junk removal calculator take to set up?

About one evening. You enter your yearly costs, crew and truck once, then your landfill rate and item fees. After that, a load quote is the tons, the item counts, the crew hours and the checklist.

I'm not good with spreadsheets. Can I still use it?

Yes. You type only in the yellow cells, and the sheet does the math and flags anything left blank. The example garage cleanout shows every cell filled in, so you can copy the pattern.

Every cleanout is different. Will it still work?

Yes. It has no fixed per-yard price inside. A single couch, a full garage or a hoarder house each get their own tons, item fees and crew hours, and a minimum charge covers the tiny pickups.
